We have two tastings this week! As you know, we like to scoop up the distilleries when they swing through town. Whisky Live is bringing Chip Tate from Balcones and Troy Karnes from High West into New York, and they’re coming to the shop to taste us on their whiskies.

MONDAY APRIL 9, FROM 6-8
Chip Tate, distiller from Balcones Distillery in Waco, Texas.

Chip’s award-winning Texas Single Malt has finally been released in New York! We’ll also be tasting:
-Baby Blue
-True Blue
-Brimstone

Chip is a wealth of knowledge, and this is your opportunity to ask a distiller questions about any and every aspect of the distilling process.

THURSDAY APRIL 12, FROM 6-8
Troy Karnes, East Coast rep for High West Distillery in Park City, Utah.

This is our first High West tasting in the shop. A lot of you have gone home with a bottle or two, and now you can taste the entire range. Also, he may bring out a special new addition to the lineup.

-Double Rye
-Rendezvous Rye
-Bourye
-Rocky Mountain Rye (maybe?!)
-Son of Bourye (maybe?!)

12% Imports and Shelton Brothers present: The Festival

Save the date!

June 23 and 24 in Worcester, MA will see the first of what we hope will become a regular event: The Festival.

12% Imports and Shelton Brothers are partnering to put on a special international festival of small brewers and cider makers unlike anything that has been seen in the US. We will have the actual brewers and cider makers on hand to present their creations.

We have commitments from Belgium, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden Switzerland, and the United States already. We’ll have at least 50 breweries represented by the people actually making and creating the beers.

We plan to have 2 sessions on Saturday June 23 and one session on Sunday June 24.

We hope to have tickets on sale by the middle of March. More details will be emerging over the next few weeks, but beer lovers, please take note of the dates!

Through printed ephemera, clothing, and accessories, the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue explore the roles played by actresses as internationally known and influential fashion leaders at the turn of the twentieth century. This aspect of popular culture, which emerged more than a hundred years ago, has a long and fascinating historical trajectory, which resonates today in a society that has become infatuated with celebrities—actresses, actors, and artists whose images are used for promotional purposes in all kinds of media and advertising.

Sometimes New Yorker and the ever-nomadic Björk is set to play ten shows in New York City next month, including six at the New York Hall of Science in Queens! The other four will be in Manhattan at Roseland Ballroom. According to the press release, the shows are in collaboration with The Creators Project, and the residency will be based around her relatively new Biophilia release.

[…]

You know, typical Björk show. Tickets go on sale January 13th at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. But there’s more! The performer will collaborate with the New York Hall of Science on a three-week-long Biophilia education series, which will feature “interactive science and music workshops for middle-school children, the series leads students on an intensive study of the scientific concepts at the core of Biophilia’s songs, including crystalline structures, lunar phases, viruses and more. Students will also learn to use the Biophilia apps as tools for music composition.” The program has actually been incorporated into the Icelandic school syllabus.
